Tribute to Rheinallt Evans
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rheinallt Evans.
Although I only had the pleasure of speaking with Rheinallt over the telephone, and regretfully never met him in person, I always looked forward to our conversations. Every call felt like time well spent and more often than not, I found myself mostly listening, enjoying the warmth, humour, and richness of his stories.
Rheinallt spoke with such pride and affection about his life in Ceredigion, and about the career he built as an architect. He had a way of bringing places, people, and memories to life, and it was clear that he carried a deep love for the communities he worked in and the buildings he helped shape.
In the National Park office, we often found ourselves sharing stories about the phone calls we’d had with him, comparing notes, smiling at the familiar themes, and laughing at the same gentle charm that always seemed to come through.
Rheinallt was also never shy in bringing forward his opinions on various planning matters and applications we were working on. He had strong views, a sharp mind, and a real passion for good design and good decision-making. Even when you didn’t always agree, you couldn’t help but appreciate his knowledge, his conviction, and the way he made you think.
His voice will be greatly missed and so will his perspective.
My sincere condolences go to his family, friends, and all those who knew him well. He will clearly be missed by many, and remembered with great fondness.
Duw a’th fendithio, a gorffwys mewn heddwch, Mr Evans.
